Night of the Living Dead
Night of the Living Dead (1968) is the groundbreaking independent horror film directed by George A. Romero that revolutionised the zombie genre and became one of the most influential horror films ever made. Filmed on a modest budget in Pennsylvania, the story follows a group of strangers who take refuge inside an isolated farmhouse as the dead mysteriously return to life and begin attacking the living. At the centre of the nightmare is Ben (Duane Jones), a resourceful survivor who attempts to organise the terrified occupants as tensions rise and the relentless undead gather outside. With its bleak atmosphere, shocking violence, social commentary and unforgettable ending, Night of the Living Dead established many of the conventions that would define modern zombie cinema.
