Horror Express (1972), also known as Pánico en el Transiberiano, is a cult British-Spanish science-fiction horror film directed by Eugenio Martín and starring legendary horror icons Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas. Set in 1906, the story follows Professor Alexander Saxton (Christopher Lee), who discovers a mysterious prehistoric humanoid frozen in the mountains of Manchuria. Believing it to be the missing link in human evolution, Saxton transports the specimen aboard the Trans-Siberian Express. However, when the creature mysteriously comes to life, passengers begin dying under horrifying circumstances. As the body count rises, Saxton and fellow scientist Dr Wells (Peter Cushing) uncover a terrifying extraterrestrial intelligence capable of absorbing human memories and transferring itself between bodies. Combining Gothic horror, science fiction and murder mystery, Horror Express has become a beloved cult classic, celebrated for its eerie atmosphere, practical effects, unsettling imagery and memorable performances.

THE DIFFERENCES

What changed in this version?

This 35mm film scan edition presents Horror Express in a format intended to preserve the appearance of a traditional theatrical film print, rather than the heavily processed presentation sometimes associated with modern digital releases.

The 35mm presentation may retain characteristics of its photochemical origins, including natural film grain, distinctive colour reproduction, occasional scratches, dust, flicker and other imperfections associated with analogue cinema.

Unlike digitally cleaned and extensively restored releases, a minimally processed film scan can offer a more authentic representation of how the film appeared during its original theatrical exhibition.

For collectors and enthusiasts of vintage horror cinema, this edition offers an opportunity to revisit Horror Express with the atmosphere and character of traditional 35mm film.
